Introducing "Ways Will Open"
Join Unbound editor Adam Tice for an un-boxing video of Sally Ann Morris's latest collection, "Ways Will Open".
The name Sally Ann Morris should be familiar to Unbound users–or, really, anyone who has kept an ear open to contemporary hymnody in the last thirty or so years. Morris, a Fellow of the Hymn Society, is one of the most prolific composers of hymn tunes in the modern era, and her music is sung around the world. GIA is proud to be her publisher, and we are excited to announce the release of her latest (and largest) tune collection!
Sally Ann Morris (Sally) lives and works in North Carolina. Since 1990 she has composed hymn tunes, songs and choral anthems published by GIA, including three previous collections: Giving Thanks in Song and Prayer (1998), To Sing the Artist’s Praise (2009) and Spread the Good News (2016). In 2013 Sally collaborated with hymn text writer Adam M. L. Tice to create the recording and music collection Walk in Peace.
Many of her tunes are found in the latest editions of GIA’s hymnals, including Worship, Gather, Lead Me, Guide Me, Ritual Song and One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. But her work is also present in other hymnals, across denominations and across the globe, such as Glory to God, Voices Together, All Creation Sings, Community of Christ Sings, Lift Up Your Hearts, The New Century Hymnal, The Hymnal 21 in Japan, Hymns Ancient and Modern, Church Hymnary 4 of the Church of Scotland and its supplement, God Welcomes All.
Sally is Musician-in-Residence for the Wake Forest University School of Divinity in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She also appears as a guest artist, clinician, composer, and conductor in churches and conferences nationwide, and has served as associate musician in the historic Iona Abbey of Scotland. In 2021, Sally was named a Fellow of the Hymn Society.
