David Bjorlin’s text Before the Dawn of Humankind celebrates God’s creativity and the ways that creatures reflect that creative impulse, seeking to “find or fashion” places of worship throughout creation. The human urge to build temples is held alongside the skills of all creatures. The text includes two tune options–FOREST FEN, composed for the text by William Beckstrand, and the widely familiar KINGSFOLD.
From Wonder to Wisdom celebrates the link between science and faith. Author Mary Louise Bringle uses sparkling and evocative language throughout. Take a moment to read the text out loud–that is the best way to truly appreciate her intricate use of rhyme and alliteration. You can listen to Benjamin Brody’s tune with another text; “From Wonder to Wisdom” could be taken a bit faster.
Creating Word won the 2025 Hymn Society search for a song about God the Creator. Author Carol Meier arranged the American traditional tune WAYFARING STRANGER to carry her text, providing space for both awe and lament within a single hymn.
God, Plant My Feet upon the Earth and God’s Is a World of Beauty are two of several on creation themes within Sally Ann Morris’s new collection, Ways Will Open. The texts are by Margaret Somerville and John Bell, respectively.
