Songs for Easter
Unbound editor Adam Tice offers hymn suggestions for the celebration of Easter.
If you haven’t already, check out Chris Shelton’s post about Sylvia Dunstan and Mark Miller’s Easter hymn, “Show Me Your Hands, Your Feet, Your Side.” We also have recent suggestions for Lent and Holy Week–be sure to check the “Lectionary Planning” page for those.
Here are a few more songs to consider for Easter, with an emphasis on the role of Mary Magdalene:
Let Us Sing of Mary
In “Let Us Sing of Mary,” Hannah Brown highlights Mary’s faithfulness. Using the classic tune KING’S WESTON makes the text instantly accessible to many congregations.
Mary Magdalene
“Magdalene Mary” by Jacque B. Jones follows Mary’s part of the story from Good Friday to Easter.
Mary of Magdala, Firt Apostle
Delores Dufner, OSB, expands upon a classic Easter text, “That Easter Morn at Break of Day,” in “Mary of Magdala, First Apostle.”
In the Darkness of the Morning
And finally, my own text “In the Darkness of the Morning” uses a gentle Latvian melody to tell the story, culminating in Mary’s recognition of Jesus.
More Easter suggestions are highlighted on the Unbound main page. And for even more, visit search results for “Easter Sunday” and “Resurrection.”
